Our Approach

We approach health and well-being differently than your conventional doctor might. At Balanced Living, we believe the body is capable of healing if you give it the right tools.

We want functional medicine to be accessible to anybody who is motivated to make positive changes in their lives. That’s why we offer a variety of ways to work with us—including online courses, a women’s group program, and individualized care through a membership model.

Conventional Medicine VS Functional Medicine

We have said that we take a different approach, but what does that mean? Conventional medicine is a great thing to turn to when you have an acute problem. If you broke your arm, or if you have strep throat, conventional medicine does a good job fixing that problem. Where we see conventional medicine fall short is the chronic, ongoing issues. 


If you have chronic symptoms, chronic fatigue, unknown allergies, anxiety or depression, your doctor would likely come back and say “you’re fine.” But in your head, you don’t feel fine! They may prescribe you a pill for each symptom, ignoring the bigger picture. These appointments sometimes last no longer than 7 minutes. 


This is where Functional Medicine steps up. We approach the body and symptoms as a whole. We aren’t just looking to treat symptoms, we are looking for the root cause.

Our Membership Structure

Since we are interested in identifying and addressing the root cause of your illness, our practice requires an investment and dedication. That’s why we have created the membership structure. Healing isn’t something that can be rushed, or achieved with a single lab or a single appointment. Healing requires more time, guidance, and support. The memberships we offer have minimum commitment times, because that is how long we have determined helps people create lasting change. 


Throughout your time with us, you will learn about stress (both physical and mental), diet, lifestyle, and mindset. Each of these play a huge role in your wellness and symptoms. We offer testing and supplements to further support and guide your individual treatment plan. After seeing both our health coach and Dr. Emily, you will have the tools your body needs to heal.

The Wild Collective is a women’s group health program to empower you with tools and strategies to regain your energy and vitality. You will meet with Dr. Emily in a group setting to learn all about how your amazing body works and how to best care for it. This program opens twice a year.
